Throughout the world between biannual World Festivals there are a number of Golden Oldies Mini-Festivals being held.
Tomarata Golden Oldies Mini Festival
Pat Came kindly invites you all to 24th Annual Tomarata Golden Oldies Hockey Festival to be held at Port Albert Domain on Sunday 3rd April.
Here we go again folks. Can't believe we have been doing this for 24 years! We invite teams from throughout the Auckland Province (others are welcome too of course!) for a day of FUN, FRIENDSHIP & FRATERNITY which is what Golden Oldies is all about! Folk gather at the Port Albert Domain at 10.00am and we hopefully start the serious business of hockey games at 10.30am. We usually have teams from as far South as Pukekohe, with the odd player from further south (Tauranga, for instance).
Each year we run multi draw raffles, plus we have some special awards which are made each year. These include a specially engraved slasher handle - the PGG Wrightson Hacker Of The Year Award, given for obvious reasons. Naturally you need a sense of humour to attend our Festival. We have the ASHTON FAMILY ANTIQUE HOCKEY STICK AND SHIELD for the Oldest Ex- Hockey player to attend our Festival. This special hockey stuck is a suitably shaped old tea tree stick found under the Whangateau Hall. We have the Dunning Shield for the team best depicting the ideals of Golden Oldies.
If someone is found doing something we think warrants a prize - we make up a suitable category to cover the situation! Any profits from the day are ploughed back into mainly Junior Hockey in the area. Last year we purchased Goalie Equipment for the local College First 11.
Lunches are available for purchase, we run a bar (PLEASE do not bring your own alcohol - ours is at a reasonable price.)
After the games we have our Prize Giving where we draw our raffles, and then - it's into our famous Hangi.
We guarantee a great day, as those who have attended in the past will vouch.
The organisers are part of the GUMDIGGERS who have attended every World Golden Oldies Hockey Festival since Campbelltown in 1987 - the first Festival we had ever been to. We had such a great time, we decided to run our own one day Festival, and share the experience with as many others as possible.
We welcome spectators as well as players, and have whole families attend. SEE YOU THERE.
