Importantly for a Golden Oldies Festival it is compact and visitors can easily cover many of the main attractions on foot. However, Edinburgh also has an excellent network of bus services and the city has bus priority schemes on all the major radial routes.
In addition to the Festival transport system though, the 'Edinburgh Pass' will be made available to all Golden Oldies. This will enable everyone to use the local bus network during their stay and admit to visitor attractions for a one-off payment.
Edinburgh is home to Scotland's iconic Murrayfield stadium - only a 15 minute walk from the city centre and a truly inspiring location to host the 2008 Golden Oldies Rugby Festival. The 'Murrayfield Roar', the noise that jubilant fans make at the home of Scottish rugby, is the stuff of legends.
Edinburgh Castle makes a stunning first impression on arrival and the Festival opening ceremonies will be held on the castle esplanade, world famous for its staging of the Military Tattoo. Even with this unique event though, we recommend that all Golden Oldies make a return visit to the Castle to explore its internal buildings and see its greatest treasures.
Elsewhere there is much to see and do in areas like the Old Town and Grassmarket with its attractions, shops, restaurants and bars. In stark contrast to Old Town's narrow wynds and closes is Edinburgh's elegant Georgian New Town. Consider a refreshment or two in the traditional bars of Rose Street or browse the fashionable shops of George Street.
Walk the historic Royal Mile from the Castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. It's downhill all the way!
Edinburgh Airport is only 12 kilometres (8 miles) from the city centre and there are direct services to all major UK cities as well as Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Paris. The city is also connected to the rest of the UK by rail with hourly services to London and to the south and west of England.
If you prefer to come by road there is an extensive express coach network connecting Edinburgh's state of the art coach station with the rest of the UK.
